If  you wish to book a workshop, then please read this information first.

Our  workshops are suitable for a maximum of 8 people.  Please telephone our workshop hotline on 01803 864947 to  book your chosen workshops, if we don't  answer please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as  possible.  We require a deposit of £5 per  person per workshop booking, which you can pay by card over the phone; this  will be refunded if we cancel the workshop or if you cancel 4 days before the  class.

Our  workshops have been incredibly popular in previous years so please book as  early as possible to avoid disappointment.   It is also worth booking as a reserve for a workshop as we often get cancellations  due to illness etc., there will be no deposit taken on reserve bookings.

Due  to the high demand of the workshops in the previous program, we are repeating some  of them to allow people who missed out the opportunity to take part in the  workshops they missed.

We  often struggle to come up with themes for men's cards - here are some ideas for  you to play around with and adapt for the man in your life.

Chalking with the  Cuttlebug - £10
Ever  wondered how to use chalks in your card making?   Wanted to try out the Cuttlebug machine?   Now you can do both and see how chalks and embossing folders are made  for each other.

Boxes Galore - £10
In  this workshop you will discover just how easy it is to make a variety of boxes  using just card and paper.  Some of the  boxes are a gift in themselves and others are for gift packaging.

Mini Pocket Book -  £10
Make  a Mini Pocket Book from one piece of 12” x 12” card.  Then make some tags and inserts to put  inside.

Star Book Card - £15
Come  and make a fantastic keepsake.  You will  learn how to put one of these cards together and then decorate it to your own  requirements.

Tri-Shutter Album -  £15
Tri-Shutter  cards are very popular at the moment.   Now come and learn how to make them into a mini album.



Workshops  with Alison Bone

Parchment Craft  Taster Session - £10
Come  and learn how to make beautiful parchment craft cards from a piece of translucent  paper and a few basic tools. In this workshop you will learn the techniques of  tracing, embossing and colouring, which is the starting point for much more  intricate and beautiful designs. This is suitable for complete beginners to  Parchment Craft or those who need a refresher.

Butterflies and Lace  - £10
This  is for the more advanced parchment crafter who must also be comfortable doing  grid work. In this lesson we will be making 3D butterflies for use on parchment  craft projects and cards. Please bring own straight grids and basic tools.

Polychromas Pencil  Taster Session - £10
Come  and discover how to use these wonderful, blendable, oil-based coloured pencils.  With 120 different colours to choose from, you can create subtle colour blends  to give a beautiful 3D effect. If you have any of these pencils, please feel  free to bring your own.

 

Alison  Bone is also able to offer both beginner and intermediate parchment  courses.  The beginner's course comprises  a set of 5 lessons from 10am -4pm, once a month for 5 months held in our  workshop.  .  For further details, see Alison in the shop  or phone her on 01803 528663.



Workshops  with Dave Dommett

Beginners Stamping -  £10
   If  I can do it anyone can.  Learn basic  stamping techniques including heat embossing, use of inks and direct to paper  techniques.

Scenic Embossing -  £10
   Dave's  branching out from Beginners Stamping into Scenic Embossing. Join him in using  the new pastel embossing powders to create fantastic scenes by blending and  re-heating the new colours. Watch as your designs unfold before your eyes.
  
Ultra Thick  Embossing Techniques - £10
Dave's  at it again with embossing techniques. Learn how to use ordinary and ultra  thick embossing powders to create amazing designs for your greeting cards. You  will be mixing powders and stamping into the heated product. These can be used  in cards and scrap booking projects.

Pigmania - a  workshop for children aged 9+ - £10
Paint  your own design on a china 'piggy bank' and start saving.  Also make a pig pencil holder using funky  foam.

Cupcakes - a  workshop for children aged 9+ - £10
Make  two notebooks each with a cupcake design on the cover.  Also make two cupcake magnets.

Summer Garland - a  workshop for children aged 9+ - £10
Make  a pretty flower garland to decorate your room.   Also make two flower magnets to match.

Funky Foam Chicken -  a workshop for children aged 9+ - £10
Make  this fun chicken to hang up in your room with its secret storage pot.

Country Scenes Cards  - £10
Relax  and stamp tranquil scenes of your own making using several stamps to build up  your picture.  Then give a watercolour  effect using watercolour pencils or Marvy Le Plume pens.

Felt Flower Necklace  - £10
Using  our new pack of die cut felt flowers and beads make this attractive and easy  necklace.

Decorative Words -  £10
Using  letters decorated with bullion wire, sequins and seed beads, make these special  cards for all occasions.  Names and  numbers are great using this technique too!

Inchie Collage Cards  - £10
This  technique shows you how to create an 'Inchie' collage - cut from your created  image - using emboss, ink and stamp.

Needle Felted  Cupcakes - £10
Make  a delightful felted Cupcake.  Ideal to  give as a birthday present.  Can also be  used as a pin cushion - using wool and a barbed needle.

Beach Hut Notepad -  £10
Make  this fun notepad to hang in your kitchen or workroom.

Wild Flower Cards -  £10
Make  several cards all with wild flowers in mind - using stamp, emboss, chalk and  embellishments.

Male Cards - £10
A  selection of male cards to make - using stamps, chalks, emboss, embellishments  etc.

Decorative Notebooks  - £10
Create  your own personalised notebooks using decorative papers, stamps and  embellishments with the Bind-It-All machine.



Workshops  with Sarah Dodd

Easel Cards - £12
Create  beautiful little works of art that are a refreshing change from the standard  folded greetings card. Using the basic easel format you will create four  beautiful cards using a range of simple but effective stamping and colouring  techniques.

Stepper Cards - £12
These  cards are growing in popularity as we search for ever more interesting ways to  create unusual greetings cards, using a range of punches, peel offs and  stamping techniques.

 

Note Card Holder/  Post-it -Note Tote - £15
Create  two handmade paper-crafted gifts: a delicately decorated folder containing  matching stamped note-cards and envelopes and a fun but quick and easy little  Post-It-Note-Tote. Both of these projects will incorporate rubber stamping.

Dry Embossing - £12
Using  the Cuttlebug, light box and brass stencils create beautiful 'dry embossed'  cards. Using a range of colouring techniques while celebrating that 'plain can  be beautiful' you will be able to produce some simple but beautiful greetings  cards and a CD/DVD holder.

Beginners  Scrapbooking/ Memory Albums - £15
If  you would like to start scrapbooking but don't know where to begin, then this  beginners class will explain how to get yourself 'scrapping'. We will give you  advice on how to ensure your photographs are preserved for generations to come,  what kinds of albums are available and how to choose the right one for your  needs.
Bring  along some photographs (copies are best) you would like to make into a layout  and we will help you produce your first page to incorporate a title and  journaling too.             

Writing It All Down  - £15
This  is a two part workshop to help you with journaling your photographs. In this  session we will explore what scrapbook journaling means and the many ways you  can record your memories or preserve family stories and anecdotes. We will  offer you some starting points and hopefully help you overcome writer's block!  After all that hard work, we will then look at ways of presenting your  journaling on your scrapbook pages and create a few little pockets and surprise  packages to hide away those precious memories for your eyes only! (3 hours)

Scrapbook Surgery -  £15
Have  you got a scrapbooking problem you need help with? Have you a half finished  project and need some inspiration, help and advice? Do you want to start a  project but don't know how to tackle it? This workshop will aim to help you  overcome 'scrappers block' and open up new possibilities and ideas to  kick-start your scrapbooking.

Stamped Clock - £15
Create  a simple but effective clock using rubber stamping techniques, inked  backgrounds and a clock mechanism.

Crop At The Shop in  2010
Would  you like the opportunity to meet once a month on a Saturday from 10-2 at  Finishing Touches to work on your scrapbook layouts?  All abilities and levels of experience  welcome.  If you would like more details  please ring Sarah on p01803 863976

FOR THE SCRAPBOOKING  WORKSHOPS PLEASE BRING COPIES OF YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS RATHER THAN THE ORIGINALS. IF  ANY MISHAPS SHOULD OCCUR YOU WILL NOT HAVE LOST PRECIOUS MEMORIES

Create with Hobby  Art - £18 to be paid on booking
Come  along for a fun filled workshop with Jenny - as seen on TV.  Jenny will be using the fantastic Hobby Art Scenic  stamps and others.  She will be sharing  some wonderful original ideas.  Don't  miss this unique opportunity to be creative!



Workshops  with Claire Foster

Shrink Plastic  Necklace - £15
We  will be making a pretty floral wire necklace using rubber stamping and shrink  plastic.  Perfect for beginners to  jewellery making.

Beads, Brooches and  Pendants with UTEE and Image Transfers - £12
Experiment  with UTEE to make some stunning items to use in your jewellery making.  We will be incorporating image transfers with  other bits and pieces to produce stunning beads and pendants finished with  UTEE.  You will have the opportunity to  make at least one of your items up into a finished piece of jewellery.

Watercolour with  Sakura - £12
Learn  the technique of watercolouring with your Sakura pens to make some beautiful  springtime themed Papercraft projects.   You will also pick up some other great tips for getting the most from  your Sakura pens.

3D Box Frame with  mirror - £15
We  will be making a Springtime themed 3D frame with mirror, which can be hung on  your graft room wall or given as a special gift.  The mini frame has an ATC sized aperture and  can be decorated up using a variety of techniques and mediums.  If you have wanted to try a bit of altered  art this is the workshop for you.



Workshops  with Birdy Heywood

Birdy  has been working with polymer clay since 1985 and is an accomplished  demonstrator and teacher of polymer clay techniques.  She has appeared on TV and her first book is  due to be published in July of this year.   So not an opportunity to be missed.   Her workshops are fun and you will be guaranteed to go home with  something to be proud of.

Making Jewellery  with Polymer Clay 1 - £30 to be paid on booking
Spend  a day creating fantastic jewellery based on geometric patterns.  All materials are included.  Tea and coffee are provided.  Please bring a packed lunch.

Workshops  With Louise Brownhill

Introduction to  Precious Metal Clay - 10am - 5/5:30pm with 1 hour for lunch - £90 to be paid on  booking
Louise  Brownhill will show you how to make a pendant, a pair of earrings and a tube  bead using precious metal clay.  An  amazing revolutionary product which enables you to make pure silver jewellery  with the ease of using clay.  The clay is  made from microscopic particles of silver with a mix of water and a non-toxic  binder to create a versatile modelling material, which once fired becomes a  beautiful piece of fine silver jewellery (99.9% silver.)  Come and learn how to make your own unique  pieces of jewellery.

Metal Clay Create  Day - 10am-5pm - £30 to be paid on booking
Only  available to those who have completed "Introduction to PMC."  This has been designed as an "open class",  where students can come and work on their on-going projects, with full use of  all tools and equipment, and help on hand if needed.  There will be an opportunity to purchase  PMC. 

Sterling Silver  Findings - 12:30pm-5pm - £35 (price does not include silver) to be paid on  booking
Come  and learn how to make the essential components to any piece of jewellery, you  will have the opportunity to make different styles of earring hooks, jump rings  and clasps from sterling silver wire.   You will make as many or as little as you choose and buy the silver as  you go.  The techniques you will learn  are soldering, hammering, wire bending and filing.  All tolls and equipment will be  provided.  Silver is not included in the  price, it can be purchased on the day.

Adding Gold and  Colour to PMC - 10am-5/5:30pm with 1 hour for lunch - £120 to be paid on  booking
This  workshop is only available to those who have completed An Introduction to  PMC.  In this workshop you will make at  least 2 items of jewellery to take home: a pair of earrings and a pendant.  You will learn adding 22kt gold PMC to PMC silver.  Ancient technique "Kuem Bo" (fusing gold foil  to silver).  Use of patinas to add  colour.  All tools and equipment will be  provided.  You will be given enough PMC  to use if you work small, however there will be opportunities to purchase more.  You will also have the opportunity to buy a  starter kit, so you can continue working with PMC as soon as you get home.

Make a Pair of  Earrings from PMC - 12-4pm - £45 to be paid on booking
This  4 hour workshop is available for beginners, no previous experience is  needed.  A great way to learn the basics  in PMC.  You will learn how to make a  pair of earrings, which will be fine silver (99.9%).  You can take all items of jewellery you make  home with you.  Techniques you will learn  include understanding of basic tools, rolling, texturing, cutting and shaping,  making holes, setting stones, torch firing and finishing.  All tools and equipment will be  provided.  You will be given 9g of PMC3  to use (which will be enough if you work small), however there will be opportunities  to purchase more.  You will also have the  option to buy a starter kit, so you can continue working with PMC as soon as  you get home.




On the day please  arrive promptly, tea/coffee will be provided.

Please wear work  clothes as things can get a little messy!   Consider safety when choosing your work clothes and make sure that you  wear no highly flammable materials.   Shoes must be sturdy and please do not wear open toed shoes or sandals.

We  are lucky enough to have Jo Gordon to come and share her wide knowledge of  using Friendly Plastic to make stunning jewellery and card embellishments.  Jo has had a successful business creating  fantastic individual jewellery pieces for many years and we are delighted she  has agreed to come and teach at our shop.
